The forecast was for around 29 knots so headed to Ynyslas estuary for a flat water session.

Arrived about 1-2 hours before high tide to find it really blowing. Even by the car in the shadow of the dunes there were sustained 28 knot gusts coming through but as usual it was a bit gusty F5-7.

Walked over to the point to check how strong the wind was out there and it was just gusting upto 28/9 knots. So rigged up the 5m to see how that would do with my 92l wave board and 23cm fin.

Another windsurfer arrived and I found that it was Kirk who had previously made diary entries of MTB on the Malvern hills so its was good to meet Kirk and good to have some company on the water.

Went out with the 5.0m and was powered up straight off the beach but then over powered out past the wind line away from the dunes. Tried loads of outhaul and even came in to add extra downhaul but I was way over powered.

After a few mad runs came in to change down to the 4.5m and out came my new Gun RDM mast for the first time. My battered and tapped old 4.5m rigged very easily on the new mast and out on the water felt really good. Now nicely in control this became an excellent session but there were some lulls that left me sinking.

Tried a fair few fast planing gybes but in the strong and gusty wind I never made any dry but some nice fast entries. Still progress because usually in 30 knot conditions I wouldn't even bother trying. Later as the tide started to fall we were confined to the speed channel but the wind angle was perfect for this so there were plenty of great runs up and down the channel with carve gybe attempts at the end.

Finally packed up as a bail out left me with cramp in the calf but shortly after the wind eased off to 5.0m - 5.8m weather anyway and I was too tired to change up. Noticed about 4 people out from Aberdyfi in the later part of the afternoon.

Excellent session and the sun even made an appearance, although as often the case, after packing up it started to rain. If it wasn't so gusty it might have been 5 stars but I'll give it 4.
